Safe Teen Club Vehicle Reporter

How Does It Work?

The Vehicle Reporter runs on two AAA batteries. It monitors time, date, location, and speed once every second via Global Positioning Satellites (GPS) and its own built-in microprocessor system. You periodically download accumulated driving data to a PC equipped with a USB port.

What Does the Vehicle Reporter Do?

It allows you to accurately determine where a person traveled, how fast they drove, where they stopped and for how long. The data stored in the Vehicle Reporter can be displayed on a street map; viewed using aerial and satellite images; or, even printed with great detail as a text report.

It can be placed inside, outside and even underneath the vehicle. Its strong magnetic mount allows for instant installation. It is built to be waterproof, so you don't have to worry about damage from the elements.

Simply put, the Vehicle Reporter is an extremely affordable GPS vehicle tracking system that can help you enhance your young driver's safety when he or she is on the road.

What's the Benefit to Parents and Teens?
Most parents find that being able to monitor a teen's driving serves as a powerful deterrent against risky driving behavior. Knowing that parents will see how fast and where a teen has driven can encourage safer driving.

Teens find that having a monitoring system in place helps them deal with peer pressure to drive faster. And it may reduce the likelihood of a young driver "showing off" with other teens in the vehicle.

How Often Should I Download Driving History?
You can download information every day, or on any schedule you wish. The unit can hold data for about one month in most cases.

Most parents agree that it's best to check driving performance frequently, especially for less experienced drivers. This gives parents and child the opportunity to discuss recent driving behavior while it is fresh in the mind of the young driver.

The Vehicle Reporter is delivered with easy instructions and the required PC software on CD. The software allows you to download information directly into popular mapping programs, or to create text reports, some of which even provide aerial photos of the neighborhood in which your teen lives and drives.

How long do the batteries last?
Battery life depends on how many hours the vehicle drives on average, per day. Also, battery life depends on the type of batteries you are using. We recommend using Energizer Lithium batteries. See the table below:

Driving Hours Battery Life Battery Life
Per Day (Alkaline) (Lithium)
1 Hour 4 Weeks 6 Weeks
2 Hours 2 Weeks 3 Weeks
4 Hours 1 Week 1.5 Weeks

How do I install the Vehicle Reporter?
The Vehicle Reporter requires no installation. With most non-commercial vehicles it can be mounted in any of the locations shown below. Automobile windshields, fiberglass and other non-metallic objects do not interfere with its operation. And should you decide to mount it beneath the vehicle using the magnetic mount, note that even at 70% effectiveness, the unit averages seven location and speed fixes every ten seconds; more than adequate to provide highly detailed reporting.

Vehicle Reporter Location Effectiveness
On the front or rear dashboard 99%
Under the front or rear dashboard 95%
Inside the glove box 80-95%
Under or on the seat 70%
Under the vehicle 70%

What is the difference between the Vehicle Tracker and Vehicle Reporter?
The Vehicle Tracker is an "active" device that allows two way communication between you and the vehicle. The Vehicle Reporter is "passive." It records months of driving history that can be downloaded periodically to your PC. Both give comparable information to parents. Where does the Vehicle Reporter work?
The Vehicle Reporter can be used anywhere on planet Earth where signals from the GPS satellites can be received. What's more exciting, it keeps information in a form that allows you to integrate it quickly into popular mapping programs. This gives you a clear picture of where the vehicle has been, even showing location by "hybrid" maps with aerial photographs.

There's no need to buy special mapping software to see where your teen's vehicle has been. Your Reporter's data output is compatible with Google Earth. And, if you happen to use Microsoft Streets and Trips, the Vehicle Reporter's output is also compatible with that program.

What does the Vehicle Reporter cost?
This remarkable piece of technology is only $259. There are no activation fees, installation fees or monthly charges.

What are the requirements for the PC used to download driving history to Google Earth?
You don't need Google Earth to use the Vehicle Reporter. But if you plan to use it to get more reporting capability, keep in mind it is a robust application that requires broadband Internet access and a reasonably fast PC. Generally, if your PC is more than three years old, Google Earth may not run to your satisfaction. These are system specifications required to use Google Earth.
