Safe Teen
Vehicle Tracker
How Does It
Work?
The
Vehicle Tracker monitors
vehicle location, speed and other parameters via global positioning
satellites (GPS) and makes reports when pre-set limits are exceeded
using an integrated cellular device to parents' phone and email. A
secure, password-protected website allows you to view vehicle
driving history in great detail.
This history of driving
behavior includes maps and reports showing where the vehicle has
been at specific times, at what speed it has been driven and
related information that helps parents monitor and enforce the
agreements they have established with their
youngsters.

What Does the Vehicle Tracker Do?
What
Reports Can I Get? Get the whole view.
Download a booklet that shows how
your tracking web site works, reports you can get and "how to"
information; learn about features, settings and
capabilities.
Your teen's car can
"phone home" to alert you of driving outside of agreed-upon
boundaries. By defining an area around your home
(highschool, college campus, etc.) you'll receive an alert if the
vehicle is driven outside those boundaries. The "Manage
Geo-Fences" option at your tracking web site allows you to
create and update these "electronic fences" as you
wish.
How do parents use
this automatic alert?
Some set an "electronic fence" around the high school so that
unauthorized outings during the school day can be managed and
monitored. Others may set a fence around their home location,
extending a distance that includes the normal, agreed upon driving
area. Beginning drivers, in particular, may tend to take "extra
rides" beyond established boundaries, often increasing their risk
for a crash. Knowing where your teen drives is a key component to
managing and mentoring your young adult driver.
You can obtain each
day's maximum speed to assure that safe driving is at the
forefront of your teen's mind. Driving history reports
are available with the click of a mouse at your password-protected
web site. You - and your teen - will quickly see the speed at which
the vehicle was driven that day. With accurate information at hand,
you're in a position to provide the guidance your young driver may
need to improve his or her driving performance.
You can monitor the
vehicle and get detailed driving history. The
Vehicle Tracker updates its position with the GPS
satellites once each second. This data is accumulated,
then transferred to your password-protected tracking web site every
five minutes whenever the ignition is "on." When the vehicle stops
for more than two minutes, you'll see a "stop" logged at the web
site until the vehicle moves again. Once in motion, Vehicle Tracker
resumes updating your web site every five minutes.
Here's what you'll see
at your site:
-
Vehicle Location - Receive current location, speed
and heading...right now!
-
Ignition on/off reports
-
Stop (for 2 minutes or more), including where and
how long stopped.
-
Top Speed of the Day - The fastest speed for the
current day.
-
A variety of reports including "Events," "Speeding,"
"Activity," "Stops" -- in tabular and mapped formats. You choose
the dates and times for each report.
-
Do you want to print or "export" the report? A click
of your mouse gives you reports for Today, Yesterday, This Week or
Last Week. You have the ultimate tool for giving guidance to your
young driver, leading him or her to safer driving
behavior.
I ordered the Vehicle
Tracker. How do I install it?
Attempting to install the device on your own may void your warranty
or cause damage to the device or your car. For this reason, we
recommend that you have the Vehicle Tracker professionally
installed by a local shop that installs car audio systems, car
alarm systems and other after market products.
Recommended:
Contact any Best
Buy store for installation. Their trained
technicians can install Vehicle Tracker in about one hour. Simply
give the installer the email you receive when you place your order.
It contains a web address that provides complete installation and
checkout instructions.
If you prefer to find your own
installer, or do not have a Best Buy in your area, you should look
for installers who hold the MECP certification (Mobile
Electronics Certified Professional). If you need help locating
an installer in your area, please contact our Customer Service
department.
How does Vehicle
Tracker communicate?
When the vehicle "phones home" it makes a call directly through the
cellular network. This call can be delivered to your cell phone as
a text message, or to an email address you specify. You can set an
unlimited number of email addresses. This means you can
receive notifications at home, at work, at your spouse's work, to
your cell phones and your wireless PDA's. Alerts are sent
simultaneously to every address you define. Result: You can
always be in touch with system generated alerts,
regardless of where you may be -- or the time of day or night. And,
of course, you can update or change these addresses via your
monitoring web site at will.
Can I get a discount on my insurance by installing
the Vehicle Tracker? The Vehicle Tracker may
qualify as an anti-theft device under state laws regulating the
insurance industry. Please contact your insurance agent or carrier
to determine if an anti-theft device discount is available in your
area. Additionally, several states have laws mandating that
insurance carriers offer anti-theft discounts.

What is the difference
between the Vehicle Tracker and Vehicle
Reporter?
The Vehicle Tracker is an "active" device that allows two
way communication between you and the vehicle. The Vehicle
Reporter is "passive." It records driving history that can be
downloaded periodically to your PC. Both give comparable
information to parents. Click for a side-by-side comparison of the monitoring and
vehicle tracking solutions available to you.
Coverage and
Costs
Where does the Vehicle
Tracker work?
The Vehicle Tracker covers over 95 percent of the United
States, using either the AT&T or T-Mobile
cellular data networks. Your unit will be configured to
provide the best coverage based on the ZIP code you provide at time
of order. You can check coverage in your area by clicking the logo
for each wireless carrier.

What's the monthly
monitoring fee?
The monthly monitoring fee is $29.95 and requires a one-year
contract. The Vehicle Tracker sends a location fix every
five minutes, which includes several kinds of information as noted
above. Each 5-minute report sends the current speed, location and
any events that have occurred, such as excessive speed, driving
outside the pre-defined boundaries you have set, etc. This
information is stored at, and accessible to you for review, through
your secure tracking web site.
Unlike some GPS units that
incur charges every time you "call" the vehicle, the Vehicle
Tracker reports continuously every five minutes. You do not pay per
report or per inquiry. There are no additional charges to
access driving history; you can check and even download details as
often as you like!
What warranty is
provided? The unit is warranted for TWO years. Contact
Customer Service at 866.930.TEEN (8336) if you need
assistance.
